STYLE: THE BODY BY IPPOLITA

People (from Left to right): Designer Ippolita and Michelle Trachtenberg, Designer Ippolita and Brooke Sheilds, Model and Ippolitta ambassador Charisse Monet and Paparoxi contributer Ameera Rouse.

Last week Paparoxi was hit with luxury as we attended the Ippolita art showcase during fashion week presented by celebrated Italian jewelry designer Ippolita. This was the first art exhibit presented by the famed jewelery designer and it took place at the Highline Stages in the meat packing neighborhood of New York.

The exhibit was a deconstruction of the human body called “Reliquary.” It was a breathe taking experience combining literal structural pieces such as the spine, heart and genitals with videos and images that captivated the audience. The entire exhibit was a play on the human experience and how we deal with things such as religion, love, growth, hurt, desire and strength. One of my favorite pieces of the night had this quote:

Everything takes longer then you think

If anything can go wrong it will

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be

The perversity of the universe tends to a maximum

Common sense is not so common

It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious

Everyone has a scheme

Everything depends

Nature always sides with the hidden flaw

90% of everything is crap

You can observe a lot by just watching

Everything taste more or less like chicken

I was thoroughly inspired by the exhibit. It made me think. I was impressed by Ippolita's ability to grab so much emotion through such simplistic yet profound pieces. It was an amazing energy in the room and despite the celebrity of the crowd it felt as if we were all on the same playing field amongst these grand human structures. I look forward to more of her work.

STYLE: NO TWO DAYS ARE ALIKE

No two days are alike. At least the past two days haven’t been. One day we are running with the brides (don’t fret no ring on the finger yet lol). Then next visiting a dear friend and her baby. Then off to having lunch with grandma. Capturing stylish teens at graduation. Just wanted to share some of the action. Enjoy!

STYLE: THE PROM DREAM

PAPAROXI.COM: "THE PROMDREAM" from Paparoxi on Vimeo.

I remember the build up of angst that went hand in hand with one of the biggest events (I thought) of my life PROM. Months of pouring through magazines and visiting dozens of boutiques to get the perfect dress. Planning out the perfect hair. Sitting at the Mac counter and testing out layers of makeup to get the right look. The nails, the flowers, the limo I remember it all like it was yesterday. I luckily have mostly fond memories of my PROM. What I remember most was the excitement it was almost palpable, and the feeling I had when I stepped into my dress and walked down the stair to my adoring family and friends. I know not everyone’s experience was magical (hey not even mine, I have just blocked out those thoughts lol). This year we captured some cool PROM style and we captured a little “teen angst” as we followed Nefertari and her “PROM DREAM”. Enjoy!

STYLE: SITTING ON EDGE

If PAPAROXI were to manifest itself into furniture then this would be the outcome. Now a days when brands and companies are constantly trying to tell you who you are, I feel like these pieces leave it up to your own interpretation. I first noticed this work in the Ducksauce’s video “Barbra Streisand” with Kanye West sitting in the Proust Geometrica Chair (featured in the middle). All the things that you may find hard to establish when styling a whole room are expressed in these pieces. Refreshing! Check out more of their things click here

ROX(i)NSPIRATION: PAT CLEVELAND

Paparoxi is all about cherishing your uniqueness in a way that you celebrate who you are everyday. When you have come to a point where you know who you are and what your purpose is in life in our eye you have really hit that Rox(I) status. So today’s inspiration is Pat Cleveland.  Fashion designer, supermodel and icon. Affectionately known as the “Catwalk Queen” Pat did things her way, never formally taught about how to model Pat developed her own signature walk that lit up runways in New York, Paris and Milan. What makes her a Rox”Inspiration” is her fearlessness about being herself. Upon walking the streets of New York one day she was approached by a woman who was intrigued by her clothes and style she asked Pat who had designed the ensemble and in fact Pat had made her own outfit. The woman was from Vogue and the rest is history. Check out this interview with Pat. Enjoy!
