Recipe: Green Smoothie

I love a green smoothie! It is the easiest way to start your day off right and get a vitamin dense meal all in one sitting. One of the things that makes green smoothies successful is the merging of the elements. Vegetables, Protein and Fiber all packed in a little punch. I find also that when I start my day off with a smoothie like this my choices for the rest of the day are better. Check out HeyFranHey’s plankandgreen challenge this month a great way to start implementing this practice daily.

Food: Split Pea Soup

2/3 bag of green split peas

½ can of coconut milk

1 tbs sea salt

1 tbs of coarse black pepper

1 tbs garlic powder

¼ tbs of ginger

Add your split peas to 4 cups of water and allow to simmer on a medium low heat until split peas have soften. You can add water at your discretion making sure that too much of the water does not boil away. Cover your peas while boiling, tilt your lid so the peas don’t boil over(You must keep your eye out). Once your peas are tender; about 45 minutes add your seasons. Lastly add your coconut milk and allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Let cool for 3 minutes and serve.

This soup is so delicious and easy with minimal ingredients. The benefits of spit peas are a wonderful detoxifiying agent. They are loaded and fiber and other nutritious ingredients. One cup of cooked split peas contains 16 grams of fiber, 16 grams of protein, 24% of the RDA for vitamin B1, 32% RDA for folate, 20% RDA for potassium, 39% RDA for manganese, 14% RDA for iron, and significant amounts of vitamin K, B2, B3 and B6.
